Top 5 Formica enemies to avoid

laminate countertop
When installing brand new Formica laminate countertops in your kitchen, the last thing you want is to do a make-over due to damage on your countertops. The goal is to keep them looking brand spanking new, even after many years of use.

In order to keep your Formica countertops looking as good as day 1, avoid the following 5 Formica enemies:

1. Chemicals:
Keep your countertops brand new and shiny by using soap, water, and a soft cloth for cleaning. Avoid harsh chemicals at all costs. If you do happen to spill acidic liquids by accident, make sure you clean it up as soon as possible.

2. Heat:
As with most countertops, flames or intense heat will burn the surface. Avoid putting a hot pot or pan directly onto the countertop – this will leave a mark.

3. Sharp objects:
Never cut directly onto the surface of a Formica countertop. Although scratch resistant, cutting directly onto the surface will leave unwanted marks. Instead, opt for a cutting board. It’ll save you plenty of heartache.

4. Spills:
We all spill something every once in a while, however, always remember to wipe the surface down afterwards. Leaving excessive moisture on the surface may result in the liquid seeping into the wood through seam lines. The last thing you want is swollen wood and liquid stains, especially on brand new Formica countertops.

5. Harsh abrasives:
When cleaning, opt for non-abrasive materials. Instead, try a soft cloth for soaking up spills, cleaning up temporary stains and unwanted stickiness due to small fingers. Treat your countertops with a gentle kind of love.
